Spring Feels Like a Beginning
March is here
Even though this is the third month of the year, it somehow feels like the real beginning. A new season quietly coming to life after the snow and ice have melted away.
The ground softens.
The air changes.
What once looked lifeless begins to breathe again.
Nature reminds us of something we often forget:
Not all beginnings happen in January.
Sometimes January arrives while we’re still frozen.
Still tired.
Still grieving.
Still trying to gather the energy to move forward.
Sometimes life interrupts our plans before the year even gets started.
That’s been true for me.
I had plans for this season. I started a 50-by-50 reflection challenge around my birthday, sharing lessons from my writing journey. But life had other plans. The passing of one of my oldest friends stopped me in my tracks. Suddenly, the challenge didn’t feel as important as remembering a life well lived.
Grief has a way of slowing everything down.
But it also has a way of clarifying what matters.
Watching someone’s life come to an end reminds you that quitting on what matters most isn’t really an option.
You may pause.
You may grieve.
You may get distracted for a while.
But purpose has a way of calling you back.
And that’s what spring feels like to me this year.
Not a loud restart.
Not a dramatic comeback.
Just a quiet thaw.
The kind where you begin again slowly.
Where the pressure to “have it all together” melts away.
Where you remember that growth doesn’t happen all at once — it happens one small return at a time.
One prayer.
One page.
One step forward.
If the beginning of the year didn’t go the way you hoped, you’re not alone.
You might just be in your winter season.
And winter never lasts forever.
Spring always comes.
And sometimes, March is the real beginning.
A question for you:
What is something in your life that feels ready to begin again this spring?
